We at Custom Self Storage pride ourselves on keeping your items as safe as we can. However, there are a few things that you as a customer can do to make sure they are just that little more secure. Read these tips on how to keep your stuff super safe when storing with us.

Making Your Storage Unit Secure

The Right Lock

This is a no-brainer. If you are a first-time renter, we even give you the best lock you can use. A disc lock is the best option as it has very limited access to the metal clasp. This makes it virtually impossible to cut for thieves, and the rounded shape makes it harder to grip. Grab one of these if you do not have one. We even know where you can buy them locally.

Nothing Explosive

Apart from some items being banned in our lockers. We would like to take the time to say that storing flammable or explosive items in your unit is dangerous. Not only will all your other things be destroyed, but it also puts our storage facility at risk. Keep these at home or outside and far away from any storage unit.

Hide Valuables

We love when people label their boxes, it’s easy and efficient. But if you have very valuable items inside your locker, maybe do not label them. Putting “Diamonds” or “Jewellery” on a box is an open invitation to any thief to grab that box first. Place these items at the back of the unit or in the corners. Make them hard to access. Chances are that if a thief gets into your unit, they will grab the first few things and bolt. Searching through the back is the last thing on their mind.
